: Interior of the machine was a simple arrangement of weights and levers. - Prince Karl, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel, eyewitness account

Are you *sure* he really said that... or could that be a quote that was attributed to him by someone else...?

: I am *amazed* nobody has figured this out yet. It's just as Karl said... "the machine is so simple that a carpenter's boy could understand and make it after having seen the inside of this wheel."

As another extremely informed person on this board said just recently... if you think Karl actually said this you have some homework to do.

: I don't actually need 65 days to build it, it could be done in a week, but I want to roll it out on the 4th, and keep everyone in suspense for a while too.

Um... okay...

: You mention forget about levers, but also publish this?

Sure, why not? Excluding generalities doesn't give anything away as much as including specifics.

: You state your one model is quite complex so are shooting for the simpler one. Is the complex one the bi-directional one, and the simpler the uni?

Actually the complex one is uni-directional and the simpler one could, with a few modifications, be either. So as far as complexity goes, in my opinion Design I is like a 7 and the uni-directional version of Design II is like a 3 and the bi-directional version of Design II is like a 5. I'm shooting for the simplest to start with.
