The evidence against Bessler being a fraud is too strong,David. I have studied the tests carried out and what would have been required and it was just not possible unless you accept the theory of a gravity-driven device. What about the examinations that discovered no sign of any connection with the bedroom? What of the 54 day test under 24 hour guard behind locked doors and under the Landgrave's seal of authority? How could you arrange for the wheel to be constantly turned over such a time? What of the numerous extended tests of one or two days over a period of 13 years? What of the long slow lifts of heavy weights from the castle yard up to the roof? How could the twelve foot wheel be accelerated to its maximum of 26 turns a minute within 3 turns. And finally, how could you make it able to turn in either direction as requested?
There is much more - but consider the above, and find alternative answers first and if you can do that I'll give you some more questions to answer.

.: Well my point was it was a fake. With clock like timing mechanisms, and what I posted earlier one could achieve what he supposedly did. Even with the maids testimony of the insertion of a rod from another room could point out he was turning the thing off for a while so it didn't wear down.
