Fosters patent was issued on Nov 11, 1997, not the early 80's.
IMO, the media avoid tech-related stuff like the plague simple because of limited public interest in 'intellectual matters'. They love reporting on weeping mothers, illogical politicians and new beauty treatments - anything that involves knee-jerk emotive issues. Show them a working Bessler wheel and I bet they'de be more interested in Stephen Hawkings emotional response than how it works. That's info-tainment for you!
