Hi Grim,
I'm not aware that Bessler had a mistress. Maybe you are referring to Karl's mistresses? After his wife died Karl was targeted by two women who subsequently had affairs with him. One of them, the Marquise de Langallerie, was French and had a somewhat vicious temper. Her husband was an adventurer and soldier and was locked up in prison in another country. She was offered the shelter of the Court by Karl. In later years as Karl slowly succumbed to Altzeimer's disease, she persuaded him to lavish more and more expensive gifts on her, until eventually one of his sons called a halt to her actions, as he was about the plunder the war chest.
I posed the scenario that as she was French and Bessler's maid was reported to have been well acquainted with a French woman of the Court, that they had plotted against Bessler. The maid had explained that she was afraid that a certain French woman might have accidentally been in the machine room alone. Bessler himself had recently become a widower and I suggested that perhaps the maid had planned to replace his deceased wife. She too had a history of plotting and had served time in prison herself. Bessler was forced to take her along with his wife when he married her, as part of the marriage deal.
I have also suggested that the madame de Langallerie had been behind the moves to have Bessler ejected from Karl's protection.
Although neither women is recorded as having a diary I do have some new information on the maid's past and I'm in the process of obtaining copies of a number of letters that she wrote so perhaps there may be some enlightenment there.

: Hi John
: If I recall correctly, quite a few posts back, there was mention made of Bessler's "mistress".
: In your extensive research, did you ever learn who she was? If so, is it possible she kept a
: journal or diary?
: Best regards
