: Are there any techniques you guys can think of that will hasten my construction of conical gears? I prefer if the teeth can be epicycloidial, I have an easy time designing those. It has occurred to me to use two different sized disks and dowels/spokes connecting their perimeters, but it makes the teeth design complex, which means I'll probably screw it up.
Not an easy task with either wood or steel. Gears are a bear no matter how you look at them, either carving/assembling from wood or hobbing them on a machine if they're steel.
My best advice to you is an old addage taught to me that really rings true--"Measure twice, cut once".
Good luck sincerely
